Be52 Week 1 – Crunchy Roll

Be52 week 1

Crunchy Roll

Every time you watch a Sci-Fi movie and see something that blows you away with regard to futuristic concept or plot wether that be some insane fashion or hair idea or a plain old house, car or planet thingy that you cannot quite explain but are so esthetically drawn too by its pure beauty or design and originality well it was probably a Manga drawing, comic or cartoon about 10 years prior. I kid you not,

the world of anime which is the name foe Japanese comic culture is lighters ahead of the game when it comes to this genre and makes hollywood look like the slow class in high school. While Anime is the 17 year old scholarship flooded quarter back and dates the head teachers divorced wife, while hollywood has a club foot and struggles to cut his meat and thinks the word friend is something that happens in stories. What I am so bluntly saying here is that there is that the programs, stories and concepts that Anime and Manga have brought to us over the years has been immense and invaluable to the creative minds in many if not all other creative fields. Its is just a wealth of the coolest stuff you can imagine which I am thankful to say is alive and well and always getting bigger, faster, stronger. Until now though it could be difficult to get hold of this content as for the most part although changing its not exactly mainstream but I assure you if you love action, style, ultimate coolness and seeing originality like you cannot get anywhere else you find this gold. This is the cool part, finding said gold just got way easier with the help of “Crunchy Roll”…. Crunchy Roll is described on Wikipedia like so;

Crunchyroll is an American website and international online community focused on streaming East Asian media including anime, manga, drama, music, electronic entertainment, and auto racing content.

It goes in at my Be52 as something that I just think is awesome and inspiring which is what this list is all about, I believe if your into cool visuals and stories then you will NOT be disappointed in the slightest. More cool going on here than in an inuits underpants, reels…

I have found many shows on here that I love and among the many comic book to movie conversions we are aware of with some of the best worth mentioning like “iornman” the “X-men” films and of course the “Batman” series have just been a wealth of boundary pushing performances and movie styles with a spectrum that has allowed us camp laughter to straight up darkness and fear. Here are some of the things that I have enjoyed that I think are really worth your time, check em out.

1. Attack on Titan – (2013)

Attack On Titan

This will blow your tiny mind and was recommended to me by a Japanese girlfriend and has had me gripped and horrified since I started watching. But please be warned, this is not for the faint of heart and in fact has had me staring at the screen mouth gaping in absolute horror. This makes “Game of Thrones” (which I love btw) look like a children’s show, I shit you not. Heres a brief; Known in Japan as Shingeki no Kyojin, many years ago, the last remnants of humanity were forced to retreat behind the towering walls of a fortified city to escape the massive, man-eating Titans that roamed the land outside their fortress. Only the heroic members of the Scouting Legion dared to stray beyond the safety of the walls – but even those brave warriors seldom returned alive. Those within the city clung to the illusion of a peaceful existence until the day that dream was shattered, and their slim chance at survival was reduced to one horrifying choice: kill – or be devoured!

2. Scott Pilgrim vs. The World (2010)

Scott Pilgrim vs The World

Like someone’s just bred a hybrid of a Commodore 64 and an iPod, Edgar Wright’s version of the hugely popular comic series packs a plethora of punches. Scott’s in love with Ramona Flowers, but in order to date her he has to defeat her seven evil exes, boss fight style! Full of typical Wright humour, this is a must for gaming fanatics.

3. Akira (1988)

Akira (1988) Japan

The king of anime! There have been so many conversions from manga to movie over the decades, but this still stands head and shoulders above the rest. Set in the post-nuclear city of Neo Tokyo, many are put off by it’s twisting, confusing plot but once you buy into the story it will not let you go. An allegory to bullying and how power can change you, Akira is still one of the finest films of the 80’s.
